Wide ranging basic introduction

This book covers a wide variety of topics in financial mathematics, with a reasonable but not too technical level of mathematics. It is well suited to a two-semester advanced undergraduate or taught masters course for students with a maths/appled maths/engineering background. Many such courses require several textbooks (of which there are many well written ones), but this book could be used as a catch-all single text for a course covering a smorgasbord of topics in financial maths. It is presented in an easy to read style.

This book is a diamond. Many books are talked about and recommended often but this one I've never heard of. After coming across some Earl Nightingale Youtube Videos, I decided to do an Amazon search and found this great diamond of a book!
Very short chapters, easy to read, digest, and really take in. I've been reading it daily and seeing an impact. There has been recent books written on the topics briefly covered within this book. This is what successful people were reading before Rich Dad. Highly Highly recommended for your book collection! I won't ever give my copy up!

Siddhartha's life takes him on a journey toward enlightenment. Afire with youthful idealism, the Brahmin joins a group of ascetics, fasting and living without possessions. Meeting Gotama the Buddha, he comes to feel this is not the right path, though he also declines joining the Buddha's followers. He reenters the world, hoping to learn of his own nature, but instead slips gradually into hedonism and materialism. Surfeited and disgusted, he flees from his possessions to become a ferryman's apprentice, learning what lessons he can from the river itself. Herman Hesse's 1922 Bildungsroman parallels the life of Buddha and seems to argue that lessons of this sort cannot be taught but come from one's own struggle to find truth. Beautiful novella, but this edition is unreadable due to many, many typos

By all means, buy the book, it's incredible, but don't buy this one. Hesse's words and W.K. Marriott's classic translation are butchered in this Simon & Brown printing -- "if" for "of", "nit" for "not", "heard" instead of "head" -- all in one paragraph. Yeesh.

Great book but don't buy this edition!

Siddhartha is a great book. This edition, however, is perhaps the worst edition of any book that I have ever--ever--seen published. The number of typos, grammatical mistakes, syntax errors, and other errors is astounding. The publishing house, Simon & Brown, should be embarrassed and ashamed.

Siddhartha by Herman Hesse changed my life and it will change yours too.

This book is a classic. In high school, I was told of this book by Andrew McMahon, of whom I was big fan of from his days in the band Something Corporate. He has a tattoo on his arm that says 'The River is Everywhere.' When describing the tattoo, he says it's a quote from Siddhartha by Herman Hesse. After reading the book, I realized that that phrase itself isn't in the book but the meaning is. To this day, that quote still strikes me deeply.

It wasn't an immediate change after I read Siddhartha but in the few years that followed, I slowly began to pick up shamatha meditation. Through the process of learning how to meditate, I picked up the Dhammapada. Through the different translations, I discovered Jack Kerouac and his version of Siddhartha, titled 'Wake up!'. Through the Jack Kerouac and the beat generation, I discovered eastern philosophy, a heart for travel, an interest in yoga, vegetarianism and ultimately veganism, The Road, and all sorts of different kinds of music. Through the changes of interest, I discovered a monastery of Theravada Buddhists within 15 miles of home that a dear friend built by hand with another monk. Eventually, I even met the Dalai Lama and many of the Tibetan monks that followed him. To this day, I meditate daily. I've found new friends, made new connections, and have a newfound respect for all people and the Earth itself. Siddhartha by Herman Hesse planted the seed. This book changed my life and it will change yours too

Galumphing farce turns to murder

John Dickson Carr took a heavy-handed turn toward humor in "The Eight of Swords," and almost drove off the edge of the cliff. The characters say "What ho" more times than Bertie Wooster. What starts out as the story of a young man who is afraid to tell his father, the Bishop of Mapleham that he spent his time in America at speakeasies and hanging out with loose women, instead of attending criminology courses at Columbia University, ends in attempted murder and murder. The farcical characters fade from view and we hear no more 'what ho's after about the middle of the book.
Carr's serial detective, the humungous Dr. Gideon Fell, galumphs into view disguised as the Viennese psychiatrist, Dr. Sigismund Von Hornswoggle. He fools no one, least of all his friend Chief Inspector Hadley. In fact, Hadley is glad to see the enormous, eccentrically-dressed detective, as he is being badgered to investigate the case of a bishop who seems to have gone mad, and is caught sliding down banisters, attacking maids, and creeping about on his host's leads in the middle of the night. There is also the mystery of the poltergeist who biffed a vicar in the eye with an inkpot.
While in Hadley's office, Colonel Standish, who is currently hosting the eccentric bishop and the poltergeist, is informed that a man has been murdered on his estate back in Gloucestershire. The deceased was discovered with a tarot card clutched in his hand: the Eight of Swords, a minor arcana, which symbolizes (according to Fell) Condemning Justice.
The eccentric Bishop of Mapleham, his errant son, and Dr. Fell pile into Colonel Standish's tonneau (this book was first published in 1934) and set off for Gloucestershire to investigate the mystery surrounding the dead man.
"The Eight of Swords" leans more toward farce than Carr's usual blend of mystery and ominous, supernatural doom, although there is one rather creepy chase scene toward the end of the book. It is a fun read and one of the author's less complicated mysteries--actually it's the only one of his mysteries where I've been able to correctly pick the murderer before the grand denouement at the end of the story.

great book, received it in the time advertised. the book is in great shape, I love the English mysteries, especially the 30's and 40's, and Sir Henry Merrivale is one of my favorites.

Complete & easy to understand muscular & metabolic disorders

I am a chiropractic student and have found this book extremely helpful in my studies. Not only is it easy to understand and follow due to the professionally drawn anatomical illustrations, but it also helps in diagnosing all types of disorders that I am studying.

Have another Netter-Better!!!!!

I cannot imagine how anyone could not just like it but rather be amazed by it. Frank was/is the go-to guy in anatomic art and this is part of his classic and justly praised work. This is the same review you will see for each of the books (from me) because the entire set and pretty much all of his publication fall in this category - and this is a branch of art I have studied and learned from for over 50 years. As to specifics: it is accurate, well presented so as to help the medical student or professional spot details and abnormalities with ease (and shows many of the latter). Grey's is fine, but Netter's is the one to buy/use/show patients with more detailed questions and introduce students too prior to work with a cadaver. I like these!!!!!

The book arrived quickly and in the condition described. The CIBA collection books are a nice balance between Netter's all pictures Atlas of Human Anatomy, and countless other anatomy books with their focus being detailed descriptions.
